About Paws
Paws opened in September 1995 as a small, home-based nursery for small groups of children, and it is still family owned and run.
Demand for places soon outstripped supply, so in November 1996 we moved into premises adapted for a nursery, with room for more children and the same smaller, more intimate groupings.
Our story
Strong standard in every area
Following our Ofsted inspection on 24 June 2026, Paws was judged to be at a Strong standard in every area.
What we want for every child
We help prepare each child to be confident, independent and self-motivated.
Confident
Each child is encouraged to reach their own potential, in a stimulating, caring, safe and secure environment.
Independent
Children choose and lead their own learning, with experienced staff guiding them, so they learn to make choices for themselves.
Self-motivated
Purposeful play and challenging activities help children build listening, speaking, concentration, persistence and co-operation.
Looking after your child
Details of all our policies and practices are available on request.
Safe and secure
A comprehensive safeguarding policy keeps children safe at nursery.
Every child included
We follow an Equal Opportunities policy, and we have a SENCO who works with parents and other agencies so children with additional needs can make progress.
Partnership with parents
Parents can follow their child's learning online, meet their key worker every term, and talk to us at drop-off and pick-up.
How children learn at Paws
Our nursery is one spacious open-plan unit, with areas set aside for a wide range of activities.
Children lead their own learning through play, while experienced staff extend their skills, knowledge and understanding. We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage and teach to Development Matters.
